Inside DGI Zen Haven’s Kitchen: Where Every Detail Was Intentionally Considered

If you’ve seen our Zen Haven kitchen, you already know that it’s a space that resonates. And from the response, it’s clear that the details didn’t go unnoticed.

What may feel seamless at first glance is actually the result of highly considered design decisions, each one contributing to the overall experience of the space. From material selections to hidden functionality, every element was designed to support both form and function.

A Statement in Scale

One of the most talked-about features of this kitchen is the island, and for good reason.

  • Island Overview: Measuring at 14'-7" x 5'-0", the island was designed to anchor the space while supporting everything from daily prep to hosting. Its generous scale allows for multiple zones of use without disrupting flow, giving the kitchen a sense of openness while still feeling highly functional. Rather than overwhelming the space, its proportions were carefully studied to feel balanced within the overall layout.

  • Oversized Sink: At the heart of the island is a generously sized sink (48 inches long) to make cooking, cleaning, and entertaining effortless. Complementing this, double faucets were added, allowing multiple people to use the sink simultaneously without interruption. A dedicated filtered water faucet provides instant hot or chilled drinking water, combining convenience with a streamlined, intentional look.

  • Double dishwashers? Always. Efficiency was further enhanced with the integration of double dishwashers, keeping up with higher demand during both everyday life and entertaining. With simultaneous loads possible, downtime is minimized, and the kitchen flows seamlessly even during gatherings. Together, these thoughtful choices around the island, sink, and dishwashers make this space as practical as it is striking.

Seamless by Design: Paneled Appliances

To maintain a clean and uninterrupted visual line, appliances (refrigerator, freezer, and dishwashers) were fully paneled to match the surrounding cabinetry. Wall ovens were tucked away in the adjacent pantry, allowing the kitchen itself to truly maintain a clean wood look.

This approach allows the kitchen as a whole to remain the focal point, eliminating visual breaks and creating a space that feels more like a thoughtfully designed living space than a traditional workspace.

Hidden Organization, Designed Around Real Life

Storage in this kitchen was never an afterthought. We worked closely with our clients to learn how they move through their day. We focus on what they reach for, what they store, and what matters most so every detail could be organized to support their lifestyle.

Tall cabinetry was designed with integrated roll-out shelving, transforming what would typically be hard-to-reach storage into something fully accessible. Within the drawers, peg organization systems were incorporated to hold dishware securely in place. Unlike fixed dividers, these systems offer flexibility over time.

Pull-out compartments for oils, spices, and frequently used cooking essentials were designed based on proximity to key work zones, ensuring that what’s used most often is always within reach.

Each of these decisions reflects a larger goal: creating a space that not only looks refined, but functions in a way that feels effortless in everyday use.

Materials That Matter

  • Island Stone: The centerpiece of the kitchen is the island’s Naica Ultra Quartzite countertop. Its natural movement and subtle veining add depth and character, creating visual interest without competing with the rest of the palette. Beyond beauty, this quartzite was selected for its durability. It is able to withstand everything from daily prep to entertaining without compromising performance.

  • White Oak Cabinetry: The cabinetry in Zen Haven features a custom stain, carefully curated by our team to complement the home’s existing finishes and overall palette. This wasn’t a “one-and-done” choice. Our process involves testing multiple stain formulas and layering techniques on sample boards to see how they read in different lighting and alongside the home’s wood floors, trim, and other architectural elements.

  • Walnut Interiors: The dark walnut is reserved for the interiors of each cabinet, an intentional upgrade from the standard maple typically used. While it creates a more elevated look when drawers and doors are opened, it also helps carry the material palette throughout the home.

Purpose drives every corner of the Zen Haven kitchen. From flow to finishes, each element works together to create a space that’s both functional and inviting. The result is a kitchen that feels purposeful, functional, and thoughtfully complete.
